Your Opponent A Draw Claimer!

Sort:
SirRook

Here is a game that I played just the other day, anyone is welcome to make a few comments and remarks. The game ended where I won on time, and my opponent who is a sore loser claimed a draw after his flag fell, he had 3 seconds left all he can do is just giving my KING checks, but there was no 3 move repeatition at all, then his flag fell, he was so bitter that he claimed that he had a 3 move repeatition and and it was a drawn game.  It is a speed chess you can run your opponents clock unless the KING is trapped in the corner with perpetual check.  Diagram below:

If anyone can find a 3 move repetiton let me know in 3 seconds? Good Luck!

Your opponent is mistaken.

This is BULLET or BLITZ where every single second counts...He's just a big loser...A game is drawn by threefold repitation only when u and ur opponent move the same piece thrice.

AKJett

obvious draw 1.Qf5+ 2.QxQ+ 3.Kc2 Kc7 3.Kc3 Kc6 4.Kc4 Kb6 5.Kb4 Kc6 6.Kc4 b6 7.Kb3! 1/2-1/2 (about 3 seconds to find it, yes, maybe even less as i am used to kp endings)

AKJett

white just trades queens and draws basically

In addition, I don't even see a real chance for perpetual check here.  I don't see how he can keep your king from getting to the b file and eventually interposing your queen.

SirRook

Roeczak in your too many moves, game over in 3 seconds for white.

The clock is just as important as the pieces. Whether or not there is a 3 fold is neither here nor there. If you can't manage your clock as well, you lose.

GenghisCant

He's just a bad loser

I was just watching Karsten Muellers endgame dvd on this. Whites King isn't in the drawing zone h1 h2, g1, g2 I think, therefore its a win for black. If white gets his king into the drawing zone h1, h2, g1, g2 then its a draw and no way to win. (THEORETICALLY). Thats with probably many  many moves and no clock to worry about.

Check it out.  ..7 QD4 maybe anyway whites king is in the wrong corner and is a loss but takes a considerable amount of moves that are correct.

White has to get his king to the opposite corner to draw.

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!

3-fold repetition is repeat of POSITION, NOT repeat of MOVES!

If the Same position, with the Same player to Move, with the same Legal options at the move (i.e. didn't have castling or en passant rights the first move and lost them the 2nd or 3rd occurance), then it's a draw.

So from the diagram, in post 1, if it went 1...Kg3 2.Qe5+ Kf2 3.Qd4+ Kf3 4.Kh8 Kg3 5.Kh7 Kf3 6.Kg8 Kg3 7.Qe5+ Kf2 8.Qd4+, that's 3-fold, like it or not!

benonidoni

thats the 50 move rule

Correct.

The pawn is "mating material anyway" so if he didn't call the 3 move repetition or 50 move rule when and if they occured it doesn't really matter.

However moving this way with no intent of reaching a result by actual play is frowned upon. It should be noted that the clock is not as important as the pieces in every situation and FIDE put rules in place to allow this. The clock keeps games from going all day long. It was never meant to be a primary win condition - good play was.

Nalimov Tablebase says this is a win for Black, but that's beside the point really. Your opponent has to do more than show that a threefold repetition can be forced. He actually has to create the threefold repetition.

jposthuma

Yeah, your opponent was overreacting.

But, was this really worth making a forum about? I mean, people get angry over time losses all the time, it's nothing new.

SirRook

jposthuma hello there freind, if you have an opponent that already lost on time and still claim the game a draw will you agree?  Your opponent's flag fell and he or she will say it is a draw after the fact that his her flag already fell, and insist on his or her mind that it is a draw no matter what, if you agree to that please don't play any blitz chess.

Thanks

My thoughts exactly. I bet that anyone here who've played some time encountered a ton of cases like this in his blitz career...

Its a win because the king isn't in the drawing zone for a knight pawn in a queen and queen+ pawn endgame
