1. Should I only focus on rapid and daily games if I want to improve my game enough to play in tournaments? 2. What's a realistic time frame to improve to at least 1500?

I’ve heard 100 points per month. That’s about what I’ve been doing. Started at 900 in September and now up to 1300 in 10 minute blitz. Hoping to hit 1500 in February/March. But we’ll see. Also pretty sure Rapid is generally higher rating than blitz. So probably even faster. Daily is much higher rating than blitz.

You kinda answered your own question.

After 2 years, and 900 bullet/blitz/rapid games, you're still 900.

I only started playing recently

People don't realize you can make a profile and not play for a few years. How long have you actually been playing for?

Two months. I started at 300

It took me about 6 months to solidly reach 1500 starting from scratch. When I say scratch, I had been playing chess for about 3 weeks prior to setting up a chess.com account so I was starting from around 700 rated in March. I finally hit 1500 around July/August. (This is in the 10-minute blitz time control).

Next goal is to reach 1600.
