What?? There's a club for us old fogie newbies? Didn't know that.
a confused senior newbie wanting to try playing some real people

Chess.com doesn't do traditional classic games. But Lichess.com is closer with 30 minutes on the clock so a game in an hour or 30 mins plus 20 secs per move as a standard format. There are probably other sites too.
Chess.com has options for 20 min, 30 min, 45 min and 60 min, as well as Custom, which allows you to choose any length. You just have to select "More" to see the additional options.
I'm not really computer interested Grafakos. And the reason I don't play classic games is I may have to leave the board for real life I can't guarantee quick moves though I prefer a faster game. Isn't it the case that if you go for blitz or any of the set timed games you can get a game organised very quickly but if you try and go for the more option it can take a while to find anyone near to your level who will play with you. But if that's not the case worth a try. As I say I don't really understand how the stuff works in practice. I joined Aimchess.com because apparently they offer training but not so much for free. And they seem to think that Chess.com doesn't really offer classic games as much as Lichess but I haven't got skin in this game.
was given a 1200 rating when I joined at the end of last year but now several months later really struggle against 1100 bots and some days even struggle with 1000 bots. Pretty darn slow and a bit baffled about timings options. No way that I can play a game in 10 minutes but don't want days either. Any newbies in the same boat? Would love to give this a try with someone in the same boat. Thanks from Colorado!
