Hi, I’m new to chess and currently have a rank of 400, what advice would you give to a beginner who is aiming for a rank in the 1000s. Thank you!

Here are some tips that helped me improve:

Good luck.

Well you managed to beat the Danny bot already so that's a good start. I guess you were following the hints all the way through to the win. That can build up some knowledge on what good moves look like.

You should experiment with the different time controls (bullet/blitz/rapid/daily) to see which you prefer, but when you are starting it is best not to play too fast. Concentrate on playing good moves, that is the hard part. Once you are able to do that, playing those good moves at a faster pace is the easier part, although still a learning curve.

There are lots of books aimed at beginners that will help you to reach 1000, and lots of videos on YouTube.

There are a few GothamChess videos that I found particularly useful; the one on studying openings, the one on analyzing chess games, the one on stopping early queen attacks the ones on the fried liver attack and the traxler countergambit.

A premium membership here will help your rating to climb faster because you get the lessons and also the puzzles. It is important to learn some tactics by practising puzzles. If you don't want to buy a premium membership here you can signup to chesstempo.com and practice tactics there (or on lichess or other chess apps, as you prefer).

Chessfactor is also a good site to sign up to which is free. There is an elementary path designed for new players up to 1000 rating.
