Are there other old beginners here?

I'm in my late 50's, I too learned the game really young. thru the years i picked it up sporadically. but it wasn't till I retired in 2019 that I took the game seriously. My goal is to reach the highest rating I have the potential for.
While having fun!

If you we start a club could we be charged for reverse age discrimination lol, 50+ to be member
Who will we give unsolicited "wisdom" to though? I could be in to hear more about the Danvers opening...
Old guy here. Never played as a kid. Watched Queen's Gambit and thought I would give it a try. Beat the easy bot thanks to chess.com programming the bot to throw the game and let me win. Got hooked and here I am.

Unfortunately the vintage patzers club has become inactive, but it certainly started off well
Inactive or arthritic?
that's a really interesting situation. 40 years.. and nevermind. I admire your perseverance

48 here. Longtime casual player but only began *studying* chess this year. Trying to learn openings and tactics, sticking to mostly daily games because I just can't think fast enough for the others, ha.

try daily chess!

I'm 60 (61 in two weeks) & got into chess with the Spassky-Fischer battle in'72. Fischer brought chess where people could make a living from it; well before cricket & the varied codes of footy here!
For decades, it never occurred to me to check libraries for basic info about chess: i.e. openings, strategy, tactics, endgames & other basics. I bought Nunn's Openings, intro books by Burgess & Schiller, etc. I quickly realised that publishers' are the winners in published literature.
I live on a pension - mainly psychosocial - & I find it hard to play live chess. I'm trying to find the confidence to play live chess (e.g. 15/10 minimum), although I want to. (Ultra-bullet, bullet & blitz hurt my brain just watching!) Hope I haven't over-shared! Cheers from the chilly realms of Oz..

Nice to meet you all

I just started a game with my sister (She got me started and I beat her the second time we played!). We each have up to 2 weeks(!) per move. I'm sure you could find someone who would be willing to play under those circumstances. I'm 2 months along and I, too, like a more leisurely game.
We were getting tired of Words With Friends!
Maybe what we need here is a club for old foggies...you know ...veterans of life, but, novices , learners & returners to chess...
Anyone up for it?
