So I just moved my rook to back up the queen instead of moving the queen to d4 and threayening the rook.. I wanted the bot to take my queen so I could trade and get rid of its queen. Was trying to keep black boxed up and get my rook into the action... It was a beginner bot and I am trying to get over the fear of losing my queen.. Am I on the right track ?? yeah I won, but thats not the point. I am wondering if my logic was sound at this point, I had other plans to capture the rook lafter the queen trade.. Still an urated newb.. just starting the beat each beginner bot 3 times journey..

Hey @kerfy23 👋
You’re definitely thinking in the right direction, and that’s the most important part 👍
Your idea of wanting to simplify by trading queens is very reasonable, especially against a beginner bot. Queen trades often reduce tactics and make positions easier to play, so the logic behind your plan makes sense. Also, trying to bring your rook into the game instead of leaving it passive is a good instinct.
That said, there are two small things to keep in mind going forward:
First, if you can force a queen trade by improving your position at the same time, that’s usually better. In this case, a move like Qd4 would have been more direct because it creates a threat and asks Black a question immediately. When you play a hope they take move, you’re giving the opponent the choice, and stronger opponents will often just decline.
Second, it’s great that you’re working on not being afraid of losing your queen, but remember that your queen is also your strongest attacking piece. Trading it off should usually be done because it improves your position or simplifies a winning endgame, not just to make the game feel safer.
Overall, yes, your reasoning was sound for a beginner level, and the fact that you’re explaining your ideas clearly means you’re learning fast. Keep asking yourself, “Does this move create a threat or improve my worst piece?” and you’ll keep progressing. You’re absolutely on the right track.

Thank you for the great feedback and encouragement.. I hope to graduate to playing humans real soon.. lol I have been watching videos a lot too.. gotham has been real good, and hanging pawns.. I have chosen the english for my starting point, have not started my black side yet.. soon though, after I have done the beginner bots probly

That’s awesome to hear, and you’re doing exactly the right things 👍
Gotham and Hanging Pawns are great choices; they explain ideas clearly and focus on plans, not just moves. English is a solid starting opening too, it teaches good piece placement and pawn structures without forcing you into crazy tactics early.
Don’t feel any rush to jump straight into playing humans. Bots are fine for building confidence, but once you do switch, try unrated games first. Everyone blunders, literally everyone, and that’s where the real learning happens. Humans also won’t play as “perfectly” as bots, which actually makes games feel more natural and fun.
For Black, when you get there, something simple like the Scandinavian, Caro-Kann, or even just solid classical development is totally fine. No need to overthink it.
Keep going at your pace, you’re clearly absorbing ideas and thinking about plans, which is the hardest part. You’re much closer to playing real games than you think 🙂

Yeah your move was good. Trading queens on e7 and then Nd5 also looked appealing to me. It's not "losing" your queen; it's just trading the queens off the board. I know a lot of players fear "losing" certain pieces when starting out, but it's more about what the resulting position is whether something stays on the board or gets traded off. You evaluate which you believe leaves you in a better position and you choose that one.
White is a piece ahead, so trading off the Queens is a good idea.
You are already winning when it reaches an end-game, so you don't need to try and win the game all over again - and trading Queens leaves Black with fewer pieces to cause trouble with.

Is it?
Black's king is stuck in the middle, waiting to get chekmated. Trading queens just solves most of black's problems.
After 1. Qd4 (attacking the h8 rook and threatening Re1) Qf8 (what else?) 2. Re1+ black just collapses.
The trade wasn't necessarily a mistake, but there was definitely a chance for a stronger follow-up with a direct attack there. Still, it's a solid lesson for next time. By the way, I recommend checking this out, there is a large selection of games for everyone.
Technically speaking 1.Re1 is a mistake, but not a serious one, for the simple reason that white is a piece up. Much faster would be 1.Qd4 (threatening the rook and Re1) when 1...0-0 2.Nd5 isn't such an interesting position to analyse.

Qd4 wouldve been much better, either u win the rook, or you win the queen by playing Re1 after ur opp moves the rook
I also think you should start playing human opponents, bots can help here and there, but their only an alhorithm in the end, nothing in the world can prepare you for human play except for human play, sometimes they make blunder after blunder and sometimes they play like magnus. Bots are programmed to make mistakes, but these mistakes arent human
