Beginner question please

I am totally new to Chess, so please forgive the beginner question. I am completing the puzzles, and the computer has me moving my attacking pieces right next to the opposing king, and the puzzle says it is a correct move. Am I wrong in thinking that the opposing king would just capture my attacking piece as it is only one square away? Thank you.

Without an example its difficult to give you an answer.

one thing that might be happening is that the attacking piece is protected by another

so the king cannot capture

In the following position, you can bring the knight or bishop close to the king, but the king can only take the knight.

Hello! My name is Daniel (I'm 13) and recently I've gotten back into chess and I still have much to learn I have Bobby Fischer teaches chess and it's proven to be a good refresher to the fundamentals of chess and I've played 2 games so far and I SUCK but practice makes perfect! I'm honestly going to get a chess set for Christmas and study defensive and offensive movements and look at famous games and get an idea on what to do and not do. Chess is really fun and I hope to get to a point that I can deem myself "good"!
