I’m a beginner in chess and really like playing it. I’ve tried learning lots of different things such as openings and tactics. I know There is a certain amount of things you can get for free and that getting good at something like chess comes at a price. But my parents aren’t willing to spend money on my chess “addiction”. I watch a lot of chess YouTubers, I try to get the best out of chess.com’s free trial. I’ve tried free courses on chessable. I use lichess. I used the free trial on dr. Wolf.

I’m just wondering can you get good at chess if you don’t have money to spend?
And is there anyone who has become good at chess without subscriptions and buying courses?

Hi! There are a lot of YouTube videos helping you through every stage of the game. I’m pretty confident you can learn anything there that you would by otherwise taking lessons. You should at least be able to get to 1600. GothamChess rating climb videos are helpful
