On Fri, May 23, 2025, you want coaching your going to have to pay for it. Is Chess something you’d be willing to invest money in, even though most likely you will not get any money from getting better at chess? We as adults have kids, Jobs, real life problems. To take on chess with all that going on late in life means you played and love the game so much you’re willing to make these commitments. Or maybe your young and possibly have a chance of becoming a titled player, I would still say know what you are getting into. Right now I see in your games you lack a basic understanding in chess. I do not know how old you are, but if you are an adult, it will take some time for you to improve. Chess is hard. You aren’t going to get good without a lot of hard work. That being said, if you actually thought about how hard this endeavor really is, and that you will most likely have to invest money in chess to get better, with little to show for it aside from having and learning mental resilience, among other things that chess can help people with, then okay welcome to the wonderful world of chess. First off. You don’t ‘need’ a coach to get better, though if you can afford it, it will speed up the learning process. Regardless there are many routes you can take to improve and gain a decent understanding of the game. For starters you can watch YouTube videos. I would watch Ben Finegold if I had to start over again. Second, game collections. You need, ideas. You get those ideas from studying annotated master games. But right now you just need to learn the basics. You can learn them with chess.com lessons, as someone pointed out. You get one free lesson a day. Next is tactics tactics tactics You need a basics tactics book, see John Bartholomew’s website for a basic general guide as well as good tactics book recommendations to get as a beginner. You should be able to get past the beginner phase without a coach, but it’s up to you to get one or not. There is just so many things to know about chess. There is the fried liver, that you will see a lot at your level, and the London System, which is what most beginners are told to play so they can play chess without having to know a lot of opening theory. I strongly recommend 1e4. And for black e5. I’ve seen masters post stuff like, that opening is too hard for a beginner, however, my idea is this. You will lose more at first because you get out tacticed, however, after awhile you will learn how to defend against all of those tactics and will gain a good tactical grasp of the game early on. It’s up to you though. There is just so much for you to learn that no beginner chess book could possibly teach it all. Gotham chess wrote a beginner book though that is actually very good and would be a good start to the game in absence of a coach. You’re going to have to learn endgames though, which can be learned from Silmans Endgame Manuel. Well, good luck!
