Hope this helped
Can someone much better than me explain why this is a blunder?
Hope this helped
Never mind my attempt to act clever, i realized that If black did play C7-C6 that would have enabled you to fork his rook and King instead.
No I think you're actually right. Even though I can fork his rook, if he makes the right moves he probably ends up with both my bishop and my knight which is more material value than the rook.
Hope this helped
Thanks for the reply - I did state in my post that I deliberately hung the bishop to gain the rook and possibly queen (which I got.)
I'm just putting it down to there being a set of very tight moves from black that would have seen it come out on top. I can't figure the combination in my mind but it must exist.
The Computer Analysis never assumes that you or your opponent are playing "Hope Chess" .
When you captured the pawn with your Bishop, you were hoping your opponent would "take the bait". Your opponent did not have to capture your Bishop, so he also Blundered.
In this instance, you lucked out because your opponent also Blundered when he took your Bishop, however, your best move was to play b4 because it does not rely on playing Hope Chess.
It is likely rated as a blunder because playing b4! is so much stronger, despite the fact that Bxb5 is not especially bad (though after 17. ... c6 18. Nc7+ Kd8 19. Nxa8 cxb5 [or 19. ... Qxb5] the knight is trapped on a8 and will likely be lost after, say, Bb7).

Thanks for the reply. Agree the knight was likely trapped by a competent player if it forked for the rook.
Hi all,
Still a relative beginner playing against 1300-1600 bots mainly.
The bot made the move B7-B5 to threaten my bishop. I then took the pawn on B5 in order to draw his queen off the C-line with my undefended bishop . He took the bait and then I could go NC7, forking his king, queen and rook and capturing the queen.
Computer rated it as a blunder. Any ideas why? I know the bot should have avoided the queen capture but why was my move so bad?
Is this just a case of the computer looking 20 moves ahead and sometimes you should ignore it when playing lower-level games?
