Hello. As I said in the title, I am a complete beginner. All I know is the moves, but I am interested in learning chess. I have downloaded some apps, but even the beginner mode seems hard right now. Where do I start? Thanks in advance.

Chess.com has spent a great deal of effort preparing lessons for beginners:

There are many more available on the Lessons tab.

If you know the moves, the rules and the object of the game, just start playing beginner bots, and work through them for a while. Have a reason for your moves. When you feel like it, play live opponents in the time format that suits you (I think rapid and daily are best for beginners, but many disagree) and you’ll be matched against others near your level. Then start lessons, puzzles, books and other aids to progress if you’re ambitious about it. Have fun, you’ll pick it up.

Welcome to the cruel world of chess. If you're prepared to sacrifice a huge chunk of your life in pursuit of a single number, come on in and leave your decency at the door.

If you know the rules including chess special moves like castling or en passant (if not then you can read about those here: https://www.chess.com/learn-how-to-play-chess ), then there are many places to start learning and improving. I recommend learning basic checkmates and theoretical endgames first. These will give you a great foundation and help give you some direction on what you are aiming for in a game. Solving chess puzzles/tactics routinely is also important (as is analyzing your own games) for improvement. As for openings, you don't need to memorize opening theory when starting out, you can get by really far on just chess opening principles: https://www.chess.com/blog/KeSetoKaiba/opening-principles-again

Here are two videos which might help. The first one is a foundational endgame to learn the details of and the second one is how you can approach analyzing your games with a computer afterwards for learning.

It’s always good to review the rules once and a while, and like another comment said it would be good to start playing with beginner bots just to get familiar with the pieces. If you have friends or family who play chess they can teach you as well, I got half decent (I haven’t played many games on this app so my rating is bad) by playing against my dad and cousin. I eventually learned enough to consistently beat my dad :)
