Confused by the Rules of the Game

Hi everyone I just lost a Game and I couldn't ask the person why as they left the room but I am soo confused as it wasn't Check Mate? Is there another way you can win games of Chess or am I missing something obvious? Thanks, Rachel xx

Maybe you ran out of time. Thats most likely, I hope you did not hit the resign button by mistake or closed the tab and lost on internet connection on the grounds of abandon game.

I think this could have been the only thing possible but I didn't press anything?

Yea you lost on time. You can go the game you lost and see on your last move or before making it your clock would show 0:00

Stick with 15/10 rapid because the time increments can be an end game saver when you need to time scramble.

People have said it before, but you likely ran out of time, or didn't realize it was actually checkmate.

You can look at the history for each of your games and it should tell you the reason for winning/losing.

If you click on the game, it should pop up with a screen saying, "You lost by etc.."

If you go to settings you can select the option "confirm resignation" in case you accidentally click the "resign" button it will ask you to confirm if that's what you actually want to do.

Hard to tell what happened without knowing which game you are referring to. As other people mentioned, it could very well be you ran out of time or you were playing chess variants such as king of the hill - where checkmate doesn't matter, winner is the one who gets their king to one of the 4 central squares first. 

If you click on chess.com icon on top left and click in Home or Profile you can see all the games you played so far.

Hi thanks, I no longer remember which game this was now ha and it hasn't happened to me since so I will just forget about it now and carry on xx
