Even though I am not even close to being gm, I agree with NikkiLikeChikki in that it is a combination of work and talent.

Like what type of inborn talent would someone need to have to get that far?

You have to take up competitive chess. That's the goal you should be aiming for, becoming somebody in the competitive chess world.
The titles follow naturally as a result.

In this digital era; OGM needs to be created where Online grandmasters get established, possibly earn money, then you get more interesting matches to. There's quite a lot of good un-fide ranked players because of situation, money, or just not caring enough.
Covid and the mass resurgence of Chess has opened paths to progression, FIDE or Chess.com need to establish a digital ranking system to truly evolve.
There are about 1500GMs in the whole world. There are probably more Professors at the Universities just in Australia, and they get paid good salaries, about 3X average income or more.
So if you want to do something worthwhile, start with a PhD. That's probably easier than NM title.

Boogie buddy, if you've reached puberty and aren't already expert level you can forget about ever getting any chess title.

I'll say top 1% of intelligence. Excellent training progression with all the important concepts gone over properly. Playing chess before 14, playing serious chess at a very high level before 18.
