just want to ask what makes person level in chess go down.

i was 1450 only in two days i got to 1300 again i lost every game i played on the row .

i cant see what is wrong. i can't see the board like before and i do a lot of blunders. but it was not like this days just two days ago. i won some really good games but losing like that in row it is very not good

A steady diet of blitz, bullet, and rapid will do that to you.

People do like bullet, but it reinforces the worst chess habits known to mankind. Blitz is only very slightly less bad.

What are the time controls for Rapid?

Lord_Hammer

As @IMBacon said, don't play those time controls if you want to improve. Play daily.

Play lots of games and analyze them.

Mostly I analyze a game or position on my own, then I check some of it with an engine, and I just do that over and over.

But... it's important to also play and look at GM games, because the engine is pretty bad at evaluating practical things and long term ideas. Sometimes moves and ideas it doesn't like are actually pretty good, so it's important not to take the engine too seriously. If it hates your move, then sure, there's probably a tactic and your move is bad. But if your move drops the eval a few tenths of a pawn, don't worry about it.

It's also really useful to save games that have something confusing or interesting. Lets say some GM plays a great attack, or rook endgame, or an opening I like. I'll save it in a file called attacks or endgames or etc. Once you have 10 or 20 games, look at them all together and you'll start to notice useful things.

Several members have messaged me that this forum helped them out, so I've often redirected people here. In short, it is not only normal to drop rating - but expected. It is frustrating (extremely so at times) but even fluctuations of a few hundred points over a short time is to be expected; we human players don't play with the "rating" consistency that a computer would. Luckily, I find that some of my largest leaps in rating come right after a frustrating drop (when I feel that I am doing nothing different/wrong).

that was very useful forum I'll try to follow these advises especially the break thing. I have improved lately with effort I've done analysing and solved puzzles even bought gold membership so I can analyze games. the bad thing is something you worked very hard for goes easily down 😂. suddenly

I agree. As a chess player, it certainly feels as if it takes a week to gain rating and a day to lose it; however, current rating is not the same as chess ability. It is a challenge to not feel connected to your rating, but the more you worry about simply learning chess (instead of increasing rating), then the more you will find that the rating seems to jump up in bursts (while it still takes time of course though). grin.png
