Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a respected chess coach and chess YouTuber based in California:

I am glad that you want to get better. I like Whiggi's advice about taking your time.
I have more tips and resources to help you improve your chess skills so you can win more games.
-I offer a free beginner’s free eBook on my website, www.ChessByLauren.com in case you are interested. The book is about asking questions before each move.
-Learn basic tactics such as the fork, discovered attack, pin, and more. I offer interactive puzzles on my website: https://www.chessbylauren.com/two-choice-puzzles.php
-I recommend two books for you: “50 Poison Pieces” and “Queen For A Day: The Girl’s Guide To Chess Mastery.” Both books are available on Amazon.com. Both books are endorsed by chess masters!
-If you are serious about chess, I highly recommend you hiring a chess coach to help you.
-Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Always as, “If I move here, where is my opponent going to move?”
I hope that this helps.

Play puzzle, it helps a lot. I think playing rapid matches also ok to help you comfortable with how pieces move first if you are complete beginner.

Stick to the basics, Develop your pieces through the middle. Get the King castled early. Bishops are strong in standard chess so swap a knight for a bishop if you can. When you advance a pawn, make sure it is supported with another piece.
Always check your intended move is no blunder before you play it.
As long as you blunder all the rest is in vain.

Besides, develop at least one opening, and two defenses (one against 1. e4 and 1. d4)
This way you will naturally get better at chess.

Hi, I mostly run out of time when I play 10 min games. I have tried to play 20 min games, but then I got paired with players with a score around 1000. I do not mind to learn something when I get smashed in the game . But it must be quite anoying to play against a rookie like me and that 20 minutes long. What do you thing. Is it normal that 20 min games are more often played by more experienced players?
