In the bird, at least when you combine f4 and b3 Bb2, don't move the d pawn until you're at least castled and development is almost finished. Moving the d pawn weakens e3 and new Bird players often fall into Ng4 + Nb4 troubles.

HI guys, I am an average player, and I was looking for a new white opening to use, because for now all I know is the Queens Gambit. My club leader started introducing the bird opening, could someone please explain some of the key concepts, additionally could you please suggest some good openings for white apart from queens gambit and the bird.
