Work through all the exercises in this book and you’ll be better than a 1000 rated player. Even so, your rating will continue to fluctuate. I’ve been playing seriously for 51 years, have been over 1800 OTB since 2009, and still have days when I drop 200 points.

I'll check it out. THANK YOU!!

Hey there, let me tell you something based on your situation you need serious help to break this plateau that's stopping you from further improvements. You can consult me and I'll be happy to help you just DM me.

I have taken probably 5 lessons form 3 different instructors already. My brother who is 2000 just tells me to not worry about lessons because studying chess is pointless under 2000.

He's just simply wrong.

Tbh, studying intensively below acertain rating is probably not the best idea, considering burnout and motivation

Maybe. I've asked him how he did it. He keeps telling me he got to 2000 simply by playing. I have been going the study rout and doing tactics religiously but it's not helping my game. I don't see how getting another lesson with the same information and advice is going to make me better. This is a me issue. I do well when an instructor holds my hand, and understand ideas concepts. I miss things in game. I typically become overly hyper focused on development and taking up space. I try not to trade unless it has a positional advantage or tactic. A lot of moves my opponents do feels so forcing to the point I'm constantly defending aggressive attacks gaining tempo on me the entire opening game.

Obviously playing a LOT is the right way, but studying maybe endgames on the side at 1000would be great. As long as you dont overdo the studying part, its rly important. Id say 50%+ of the time should at least be spent playing 10% opening 20% tactics and middlegame and 20% endgame study. If you wanna play more than that, also good, but at least get in some opening prep, its pretty important, and endgames are underrated, nobody knows what to do

No more than 20% of your time should be spent playing. The rest should be spent learning, studying, analyzing.

Play a three minute game. Spend at least 10 analyzing. The first five minutes of analysis are before you seek help from an engine.

First of all, HOLY UNC. Second of all, you made your account in 2007, first rapid rating of 1700 now youre 1800. What an achievement. Honestly, maybe just admit youre wrong buddy

Child, I'm not your buddy. I was in my late 40s when this site came into existence.

I've forgotten more about teaching and training than you'll ever know.

20% was obvious hyperbole, but still much much higher than was possible when I was your age. The opportunity to play 24/7 is recent (just over a quarter century).

Ten years ago, I was over 2000 in rapid. Now I'm dealing with the effects of the inevitable deterioration that comes with age.

You are quick to judge based on minimal information, but slow to understand.

I do commend your emphasis on endgames, however.
