How do the bots work?

Hello,

I am playing the bots in an attempt to measure my progress. I started at the bottom and increased the intensity of the bot until I got stuck. Then the idea is to stay there until I can beat that bot consistently. All the while attempting to stick to good opening principles and avoid playing an opening. I am playing at 1600 at the moment, not consistently. The bot seems to use the same openings each, it has a few different ones. I tried a bot of 1800 and it was always the same Fianchetto opening. I can beat the 1600 but sometimes it thrashes me. Are the bots consistent in their play? Some people have mentioned the bots are lower than their rating?

The higher rated the bot the more likely they won’t blunder and that is why they are lower rated than they really are. Bots play their opening consistently, but their level of play varies. One day they could be playing like martin, but another they play like a 2000 FIDE

In addition to randomly playing idiotic moves, the higher-rated bots also have rubber band AI. If you lose to them enough times, they may become idiots.
