Thank you! I know B must stand for board but I can't make up of a word for the first two letters. 😀

Why do you "need" to beat someone?

Over-the-board. It's okay, I didn't understand what it meant for a while as well.

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a chess coach based and chess book author based in California.

I have tips to help you win more games!

I recommend playing with a slow time control, such as game in 30 minutes.  You need time to think.  Beginners tend to make a lot of silly moves with very little time.  This makes sense since there’s a lot of pieces on the board.

I also offer a  free beginner’s free eBook on my website, www.ChessByLauren.com in case you are interested. The book is about asking questions before each move.
Before each move, I highly encourage you ask questions before every move such as, “If I move here, is it safe?”, “Can I safely capture a piece?”, and more.

Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side.

Learn basic tactics such as the fork, discovered attack, pin, and more.  I offer interactive puzzles on my website: https://www.chessbylauren.com/two-choice-puzzles.php
If you are serious about chess, I highly recommend you hiring a chess coach to help you.
I hope that this helps.

Also, OTB means "Over the Board".

Sorry, Charley, but there is no magic formula that will suddenly let you beat stronger players. You will have to learn to play better. This will take time. Get a chess book (Tarrasch's "The Game of Chess" or Capablanca's "Primer of Chess" and "Chess Fundamentals" are good) meant for beginners. Play with longer time controls so you have a chance to think about what your opponent is trying to do to you and find a way to turn the tables on them. Use the analysis feature here on chess.com, and your own common sense, to go over your games. It will be more satisfying to be good enough to beat stronger players than it would be to find some trick that might let you win a few games.

Try the scholars mate, probably your only hope. Maybe there’s chance he doesn’t know it.

To give him a run for his money, literally set a goal on blundering 0 pieces in the match. At 900, he’ll probably still blunder 2-3 pieces in the game.

i got to 1100 and i still blunder 2-3 pieces per game
