It's rare for this position to happen, but the idea can be used when there are other pieces on the board as well (thus depriving Black of a stalemate defence).
More importantly, 5.e4 throws away the win. 5...Ke7 6.Kf5 Kf7 draws. You should have played the king to the 6th. rank (preferably) or pawn to the 3rd. instead.
