Hi,

Yes, you can play. but you may make a lot of mistakes while you do, and that's ok, it is normal! To improve, we need to continue to add new concepts and patterns to our existing knowledge base, and continually fine tune our thought process when evaluating positions and selecting ideas/moves to make. If you'd like some help, I can join you in a Chess.com Classroom and go over some concepts, review game(s) of yours with you, and help give you some ideas on how to move your game forward. Let me know! Nobody likes to lose all the time, and chess should be fun, it's a game after all, and I'd be happy to help you find the fun in chess. Send me a message if interested! happy.png

If this is your first time playing...of course you can't expect to win a game immediately.

A toddler learning to crawl...you can't expect the toddler to enter a 100m sprint and win the tournament.

Such things take time. Take it one step at a time. You could start by learning the most basic of checkmates - repeating techniques using a king, queen or rook which can be useful to master - over a period of one week or so.

The ideas in chess are much more than just learning the mere rules of how the pieces move, just like how mathematics suddenly turn into calculus when you were learning the basics of addition and subtraction as a child. Their combined effects bring about the many different ideas coming together in chess.

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a respected  chess coach and chess YouTuber who helps beginners out :

Sorry to hear you are very frustrated!

Here’s some ideas to help you get better.

-I’ll be happy to analyze one of your chess games for free for my YouTube channel, since I love to help beginners out.  Share one of your games with me!  This is a great way to get better!

-I recommend two books for you: “50 Poison Pieces”   and “Queen For A Day: The Girl’s Guide To Chess Mastery.”  Both books are available on Amazon.com.  Both books are endorsed by chess masters!

-If you are serious about chess, I highly recommend you hiring a chess coach to help you.

-Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Always as, “If I move here, where is my opponent going to move?”. Do this for every single move!

-Play with a slow time control, such as G/30 so you have plenty of time to think before every move.

@joeysboiis A lesson I've learned is that it doesn't matter how hard you study, and how much effort you put into games. You'll still lose most of the time. As soon as I realised that and simply stopped caring, I felt a lot happier.
