Used to play at 1600 Elo through my mid-late 20s. It’s now down to 400 and I can’t seem get away from the opening without losing any advantage and eventually dying.

I want
/need help as I’ve been playing for more than 30 years, but maybe advice on what ya’ll handle yourselves if you perpetually keep dying when playing chess.

If it matters, makes no difference if white or black.

Study opening traps. Some openings, such as Englund Gambit, scotch opening, fried liver, they have certain traps to them, maybe that’s why you blunder in the opening.
Also look around, use all your time, don’t start a 30 min game and spend 3 min. Are you 1600 in daily, rapid or blitz or bullet? That could be another problem.
