Is it normal to be on a losing streak?

Occasionally, before I get very high points, my rating drop before they go up. Has anyone noticed this pattern in their games?

Everyone experiences ups and downs. Your 55 point drop, so far, from your peak rating is minimal. Some people drop hundreds of points before they recover.

Majority of chess players go through the see-saw process as well. Its also worth noting that the higher you go up in the rating ladder, the harder it is to earn points which consequently makes it easier to lose points.

Yes! As you win games you will start playing better players hence lose some more matches. Plus as you win you may get lazy overconfident etc. it seems especially if you play rapid or blitz and you are not in a good mindset tired bored not focused. I mostly do daily and have had 6 or 7 match streaks especially since I try to not play people more than 25 points less than me

It's a well known thing to lose points before breaking through a previous plateau. So if you'd be stuck at say 1200, then work on your game, it's not uncommon to go back down a bit. But if you've really learned something and are playing better chess, you'll get back up and finally break through that 1200 that was at first your ceiling.

Cure against losing streaks: whenever you lose a game, stop playing and analyse it first.

That would be great but I have Basic membership, but thanks for your concern, all I wanted to know is if I'm a bad chess player.

RAU4ever

That's not a reason to not analyse a game. Just a basic check to see if you missed tactics or if you could have prevented your opponent's tactics is already more than not doing anything.

I know... right? I started with an 800 rated account 8-10 months ago (I don't remember if you can start with higher o lower rating) and each little step forward is a struggle.

Now I'm playing 5 min blitz, but while playing 3 min blitz it was just as you described... could maintain a certain rating when suddenly reaching to that losing streak... wham, 100 or 200 points lost in less than a week (when playing at 800 level that's like losing between 12 to 25 matches) and the more you play, the more you lose. At some moment it stops and you get to recover SLOWLY your rating again.

This week also recovered pretty well from below 800 to 918 (779 on July 31) and my chess level didn't improved at all. I've seen this mostly after entering some tournament, get on a winning streak and keep on that streak several days after.

Really I don't see any noticeable or understandable pattern, but it's an annoying behaviour.

As some others stated... when you're just getting into that losing streak, you should stop playing for a while.

Especially blitz because you don’t think and your loser mentality kicks in! Play daily or something

DEFINITELY! I dropped like 138 USCF rated points in 5 tournaments before I went up like 500 points in 5 tournaments (the last one established my current peak rating). Everyone experiences this at some point.

A good idea that works for me when I start losing a bunch is to take some time and spend it on other areas of chess other than playing matches (or just take a fun break). Opening study, puzzles, endgame positions, or even watching top players play can help change your results.

Sometimes watching top players or videos online can at least motivate you and make you say look I can do this and makes you want to play and fight on

It's weird... this afternoon I was on a winning streak.
Now I get to play again and from 10 games played --> lost: 6, won: 2, draw: 2

Feels like even when on the same "scoring", matches you in a streak with weaker oponents or a streak with stronger oponents.

And I'm doing just the same... e4, anti fried liver, some fianchetts, etc... can't find any reasonable explanation, it's annoying and frustrating.

I don't think being in the 80+ percentile makes one a bad player... I still consider myself bad and I'm about 3x your current rating so it is all relative.
