Is There A Site More For Beginners?

I feel like this site has a really steep learning curve. For a minute I kept getting connected with people of significantly higher level than me and in a few I think I actually did pretty well, but now even with people supposedly "Matched to my level", I find myself getting outplayed really quickly. I'm thinking maybe I need to play on a site where the player base is a lot more on my level or with some guidance of some kind.

I've tried puzzles and I've read through the lessons. I even tried following many of the "opening principles" to which I've been destroyed even following them. I'd be willing to learn more from playing if it didn't always end up completely annihilating my W/L/D record and tanking my score.

I haven't broke past the 400s since I started and that's even with some relatively even games with higher ranked players and some in which the game went well up until the end game. And with people around here brushing off my score as just being a blunderfest, it's a bit disheartening. I'm pretty sure I have a decent idea of what I'm doing.

You only started a couple days ago. Give it a month, then a couple more months. Keep working on the puzzles, going through the lessons and analyze your games after you play them.

Chess is a very complicated game and it will take time to become good at it, but you are doing OK and I am sure you will improve. Just have some patience.

Keep at it mate. I've been at the 400's, slowly grinding my way up. It feels sometimes everyone under a 1000 gets brushed off by higher ranks so don't feel too disheartened.... We've all been there. Take a look at my stats, I've put a lot of hours into games and puzzles, and sometimes progress seems dead end but all I'd recommend is enjoy the game, analysing after is crucial and when you realise how many missed opportunities were available it's good for future games. We all make a lot of mistakes🙂

Send me one of your games and I'll be happy to analyze the game for free on my YouTube channel on Sunday livestream from 1-2PM PST.  Ask me questions in real time!

This is a great way to improve!

Here’s more  ideas to help you get better.

-I recommend two books for you: “50 Poison Pieces”   and “Queen For A Day: The Girl’s Guide To Chess Mastery.”  Both books are available on Amazon.com.  Both books are endorsed by chess masters!

-If you are serious about chess, I highly recommend you hiring a chess coach to help you.

-Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Always as, “If I move here, where is my opponent going to move?”. Do this for every single move!

-Play with a slow time control, such as G/30 so you have plenty of time to think before every move.
