I don't think people are purposely sandbagging. My stance on this is people at lower levels are getting better at the game, but it's ridiculously hard to climb in ranking because you have to win an astronomical amount of games (assuming you have some losses thrown in). I get whooped on at 750 ranking and do win *some* of my games, but I can tell when someone is or should be ranked higher than they are. Maybe they are on the climb but it's taking forever to go from 700-900 cause you have to win something like 30 consecutive games without losses or like 50 if you lose one out of every like 3-4 games. It's really difficult to climb out of that hole unless you play a lot. My take on it.

As already said, the wins do not need to be consecutive and you only need 25 more wins than losses at 8 points/game to climb 200 points.

200 points is a lot, so it should not happen very quickly and the higher you climb, the harder it will get. Because everyone else will be putting in more effort and the total ”sunday-players” will be pretty rare at 1200 and above.

I am happy if I can climb 200 points a year from now on. Even 100 will be OK.

I am kind of ”stuck” at around 1400 (at the moment a little below), but that just means I’ll need to study more, work even more on my tactics (since those still win/lose most of my games) and play and analyse more in order to improve. And only after I improve enough, can I expect to go up in rating more.

I do not know when that will happen, but it will happen, as I am willing to put in the effort.

Try living at 2000+ rapid.

That’s just unnecessary boasting.

But yes it should be expected that the higher one climbs the harder it will get to climb even higher.

Dont flex a provisional rating, get a real one first

Ohhhh sneaky d4! Come on @d4iscrazy you can't complain that it's hard to gain rating in the 2000s when you've only played 9 games!

To me it seems like you were playing unrated blitz games against opponents who are way higher rated than you.

You were playing 1400 and 2000 rated opponents. These are twice or more your rating.

Your rating did not change in any of the games (even in the ones against lower rated opponents) so I don't think the games were rated.

Play rated games against random opponents. there should be no sandbagging to the extent that winning is impossible or getting from 600-700 to 1000.

oh yeah i was playing unrated blitz games because the people there seemed more respectful with the added advantage of the game being a bit more casual though i've noticed a similarity between the unrespectful people there and the ones i've played against around my blitz range and the similarity between their insults was something that seemed weird, so im not sure but it might be likely that the people i came by in my rating range were sandbaggers of some kind

as the title implies its literally impossible if youre below 700,

Well, it is impossible to win if you resign in a completely equal position.

Here are 2 fresh examples:

In both games you resigned for absolutely no reason.

i probably had to go or my internet gave up on me for whatever reason

They're just disrespectful people. There are disrespectful people at any rating range in online chess. It has nothing to do with sandbagging.

The solution is to turn chat OFF so they can not bother you. Believe me, you will not miss out on any great conversations with brilliant people.

Learn to play decent chess befoŕe playing bltz. All good blitz and rapid players are good at longer reflection times. Playing lots of blunder in fast tempo will never make you a better chess player.

what is this, my opponent literally humiliated me like this 12 times in a row, i quit chess, this site's playerbase actually sucks

and plus most people humiliate others just because they can move an image vaguely resembling a chess piece better than them, how do i even improve at chess in these circumstances

I notice a GM in your recent games. He is 2700+.

Why are you playing 12 unrated games against the same opponent?

You are playing UNRATED, so the opponent could be a person that has just played a lot unrated and that is why their rating does not reflect their strength. That is not sandbagging, because the games are UNRATED.

So if you notice your opponent is way stronger than you, why do you play them 12 times in a row and then wonder why you keep losing? Do you really expect to get that much stronger all of a sudden?

Play RATED games against RANDOM opponents and you will have no such worries.

Seriously, you can only have this issue if you CHOOSE to play the same opponent 12 times in a row.

i know yes, but i've checked their games and it seems that they've started at around 800, and have lost a few games and dropped to around 600, but the weird part is that they actually won a few games against much higher rated opponents, which in itself is quite odd as well, and they play a really weird opening so i dont really know whats going on

What does it matter? You do NOT need to play that same opponent 12 times in a row or ever, if you do not want to.

It is pretty weird that you are judging the whole player base, because you get crushed by ONE SINGLE player 12 times. They are ONE person, not the whole player base.

I repeat: play RATED games against RANDOM people and there is no issue like this.
