I don't think people are purposely sandbagging. My stance on this is people at lower levels are getting better at the game, but it's ridiculously hard to climb in ranking because you have to win an astronomical amount of games (assuming you have some losses thrown in). I get whooped on at 750 ranking and do win *some* of my games, but I can tell when someone is or should be ranked higher than they are. Maybe they are on the climb but it's taking forever to go from 700-900 cause you have to win something like 30 consecutive games without losses or like 50 if you lose one out of every like 3-4 games. It's really difficult to climb out of that hole unless you play a lot. My take on it.
As already said, the wins do not need to be consecutive and you only need 25 more wins than losses at 8 points/game to climb 200 points.
200 points is a lot, so it should not happen very quickly and the higher you climb, the harder it will get. Because everyone else will be putting in more effort and the total ”sunday-players” will be pretty rare at 1200 and above.
I am happy if I can climb 200 points a year from now on. Even 100 will be OK.
I am kind of ”stuck” at around 1400 (at the moment a little below), but that just means I’ll need to study more, work even more on my tactics (since those still win/lose most of my games) and play and analyse more in order to improve. And only after I improve enough, can I expect to go up in rating more.
I do not know when that will happen, but it will happen, as I am willing to put in the effort.
Good for you.
