Guy's

Help for an old rookie. I keep getting killed by the Queen in 10 min Rapid even after a solid start. Apart from you clever guy's donating a younger and quicker brain, any MUST DO or MUST NOT DO tips or tricks? Come on, give an old guy a break

Yes, play longer time controls. happy.png It doesn't really have to do with age, every one of us weaker players are even worse on shorter time controls.

Hi Nicole. Thanks for your advice. You look a strong player (intermediate?) I was told to play 10min games but my accuracy is much better in Daily games. If ever you could be interested in playing a game...Great. I would understand if not asyou have more exciting opponents in you skill class. Good luck and I will check on your journey to 2000

Of course  you play better in daily chess. Daily chess has opening explorer and analysis board so it is easier to survive the opening. happy.png

And 10 minutes is still a fast game. I think it is too fast for improving players. I play 1 hour per side, but 15|10 should be a minimum if you wish to improve. If not, anything goes, as long as you are having fun playing.

Edit: No problem. happy.png

Yeah the kids love the early queen traps.  Just have to learn them.  I usually worry about defending and development and ignore attacking the queen.  If you can defend early and stabilize you'll have a better position and even be ahead on development.

Thanks Jerry for your post. Having only played for the first time in December, I'm hooked and intrigued. Hope you are staying safe

Play against the bot that does the queen zerk attacks until you have some experience at dealing with these kinds of attacks.  The queen out is a terrible opening but it works against beginners so people keep doing it.  Once you see how to beat it, you will get past the people that try it for the most part.

To avoid getting killed by your opponent's queen in the opening, BEFORE YOU MAKE A MOVE, you must ask, "Can my opponent's queen safely capture a piece(s)?".  If you opponent's queen can safely capture a piece(s), then find a way to defend those pieces.  Sometimes, you can move the piece that is being attacked by the queen.  Or you have to move a piece to defend the unprotected piece that is being attacked by the queen.  I hope that this helps.

Before each move, take your time.
