Motivation?

Great question, I wish I knew (not for chess but related things).
People who become skilled at something non-essential (like chess) have/had a passion for it. As far as I know you can't fake passion.
But I guess you can diminish negative aspects which might hinder your passion. For example it's about the process, not the final result. In chess that means, you know, take pleasure in what you learn from a game (regardless of whether you won). As you see yourself improve it's rewarding.
If you don't feel like playing a game a day, why do you want to try to play a game a day then? To improve at chess, it doesn't have to be a daily thing. If you play 3 times a week you'll also improve. Besides, playing the game is probably not the fastest way to improve anyway, much better to do some tactics for 10 mins a day (or per 2 days). If you just play for fun, I see even less reason for making yourself play a game a day.

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a respected chess coach and chess YouTuber based in California:

For motivation, maybe watch top chess players on YouTube?
Or maybe hiring a chess coach?
I hope that this helps.

I concur with the comments about why force yourself to play a game everyday. A master told me a while back that its good to play a lot but only if you analyze each game you play rather thoroughly. If you arent doing that its something close to being a waste of time if your reason for playing is to get better. personally as far as live games go I play at most one game per week most o the time. Sometimes 2 or 3 unrated live games in one day against masters for training purposes. I also usually have a few correspondence games going on here and with the ICCF but all and all I play a lot less than the average online player I think. That said....I do devote a lot of time to getting better at chess....most of it...Id say 90 percent of it is studying.
