Most important is to check your intended move is no blunder before you play it.
This little bit of mental discipline is enough to propel you to 1500.
Hi. In terms of strategy, for a beginner it's useful to think about a game as having three phases, the Opening, Middlegame, and Endgame (not all games get as far as the endgame, often you can checkmate your opponent in the middlegame). These three phases have different aims and principles. You could start be googling 'Opening Principles' to find some useful sites and videos that explain what you should be doing in the opening. Then practice applying these principles in your actual games. It will help you improve. Good luck.
