What are good chess videos for beginners? Everyone keeps telling me to watch Gotham chess or the St Louis chess club, but their "beginner" videos just talk really fast about a hundred different things and I have no idea what they are talking about. I need videos that step slowly through each and every move, without going off on tangents.

I agree that GothamChess presents at machine gun pace.

Many chess videos are presented at a fast pace in order to squeeze as much instruction as possible within the allotted time.  A recommended approach for the viewer is therefore to frequently pause the video, proceeding only after thinking about and understanding what has just been conveyed.

You might also check out the following chess channels.....hopefully the speed of presentation will be more comfortable...

'Jim's Chess Channel'...

'Hanging Pawns'....

otherwise, you might check out some of the YouTube channels cited here...

John Bartholomew.

His beginner videos are great.  They are well paced and he's a great speaker.  And he's got LOADS of em.  He was doing "Speedruns" years before anyone else even dreamed up the term "speedrun".   Watch his "Standard Chess" videos if you want to really understand the thought process of a very strong player.  Just listening to him for the first few times helped my game.  He's improved considerably since those videos, and does twitch streams and other stuff now even though he's not that active on YT.

I would recommend 3 playlists to start:

Chess Fundamentals.

A very good series is by NM Ramirez. He has almost 200 lessons which starts right at the beginning for players who know absolutely nothing about chess, and then gradually works up to master level.

For someone who is 900 rated, start somewhere around lesson 30
