[Removed] is better for beginners in my opinion. Quitting/stalling games happens a lot here so I’d recommend nothing over 10 minutes unless you are prepared to wait a full half hour for a win.

First of all, welcome to the site. I hope you will have great time improving your game. If you need any tips, and you have time to read a bit, check this out:

I was in your shoes less than a year ago, and this is what I did to improve my game to where it is now (and I hope that is not the end). happy.png

Joined yesterday and trying to bash the site? Really? I haven't many real issues. Sure, I've seen a player stall before, but it's definitely a minority. There are always bad sports somewhere.

I find if you know basic things like how to move and the point values of the pieces (pawn 1, knight 3, bishop 3, rook 5, queen 9), and basic endgame skills like checkmating with king/rook vs king and two rooks vs king, then really your main focus should be on not giving away material for free. Look a the board and see what is not defended enough and under attack. If it's your material, avoid losing it. If it's your opponent's material, take it, etc. Basic opening principles are also nice.

I'm also a beginner who started here just 3 months ago. I have been (slowly) improving here on Chess.com .  Welcome!

nklristic is a very helpful member to follow.  (Do you know how to follow someone here?)
Also follow ... IMBacon, kindaspongey and MarkGrubb. There are others, too. But I'm risking offending several who I didn't mention....

Play longer time frames. You tend to play 10 minute games.  I recommend you play at least 30 minute games (I also like 15|10, where you start with 15 minutes each and gain 10 seconds for each move you make.) ... and USE THE TIME to consider your moves.  One of the best bits of advice I got was to go ahead and sometimes lose because you timed-out.

Check out Mark Bartholomew's Youtube videos on the Fundamentals of chess. I learned a TON watching -- and re-watching -- them.

I'm only a bit higher rated than you, if you'd like to play let me know. Have fun!

I've been a member for quite some time now and I don't think I've ever had anyone abandon and leave me hanging. I also don't play anything longer than 10min games though.
