Something kind of hilarious about a so-called chess player boasting about blocking people because they're too good for him. Sounds like a recipe for smug, perpetual mediocrity

Not the best recipe, though. Furthermore, the more I play in here, the more I notice the prevalence of bully chess on this site, compared to other sites.

the rest of us have learned to treat nonstop cheap attacking players with patience

You guys seem to confuse me being able to play against bully chess (even if the claim is that I can't define that), with me actively disliking bully chess and blocking those who, imo, play it.

it depends who is playing the "bully chess" o_O

If you dont like playing against bully chess you should stop playing chess. Why on earth would blocking individual players achieve anything on a site with 60 million, where you virtually never face the same opponents again

Oh, if only that last part were true... Also, I like using the tools available on the site. As for me stopping my chess playing, it may stop here at some point.

i mean i can sort of relate to players annoying me to death, but its happened so many times that ive kinda gone numb to the experience.

Blocking is an arbitrary act in itself, so reasons need not be wholesome for it to take place.

Yes, but why then is it worth at all mentioning? Your skill at causing impressively long threads about the most inane of chess topics is truly grandmaster level.

Well, I wanted to share. I guess people commenting are also sharing. My reasons to block people need not be shared, though. In fact, I knew well before I posted that I would receive backlash.

There is that. One of the best things I ever did when I signed up was notice that this community is full of bully chess players (and some bullies, overall), so I don't take anything seriously. Responses to my threads have done nothing but confirm what I first noticed.

Sorry if I offended you in any way. I should have been more civil. It’s just, my stance doesn’t support blocking players for how they play, but agree to disagree?

By all means, I'm far from being offended. I understand your position, I really do and I don't even think that my opinion is superior in any way. It's just my opinion about using the tools on this site.

You are the only one that thinks your opinion is even remotely sane and the blocking tool wasn't designed to block people who put you into uncomfortable positions that you can't figure out.

You'd be surprised if people were truthful about WHY they have blocked players (or would block players)...

I will block people who have three distinct vowels in their username because that is against the spirit of chess as intended by the space aliens that taught the game to the first chess player, Theodore Roosevelt.

I mean, if we are going to go goofy arbitrary lets do this.

You could be blocked too.

GM playing IM. "I don't believe that IM didn't see the mate in 11 moves. Blocked!"

People disagreeing with you is not bullying.

Your record is mediocre, and there's no weight of authority behind the arguments you make. I don't say that to be rude. My record is mediocre. But I'm not holding myself out as an arbiter of what constitutes "good chess" or dismissing games by world champions as somehow, nebulously "wrong".

You acknowledge that your assessment of what constitutes "bully chess" is nothing but your own opinion. You've also demonstrated that you have your own idiosyncratic idea of sportsmanship (which, given that sportsmanship is a consensus, you're pretty much *always* going to be wrong about if you come up with your own).

What these threads look like to the rest of us, therefore, is someone throwing a tantrum because people aren't playing the game the way he wants. Not very edifying, but on its own, whatever. Indeed if you didn't make a point of bragging about it, nobody would care. What's more of an issue is that you're and actively encouraging others to do the same, something which promotes intolerance in the community and which, if other people will follow your advice, will hinder their development as players.

Surely you knew what was going to happen when you posted this thread, after the last one? Posting this thread is basically trolling to start with.
