You can't play only what you want to play. You need to learn how to refute the openings you dislike that they play against you.

@JackRoach, actually that would be good if I wanted to improve in here, which I don't. When I play seroius chess, I deal with anything thrown at me, but I don't play seriously here
i wouldnt say it's the best, though. i mean, its chess. at the end of the day, youre going to have to learn how to counter it. this is the reason why youtube videos on chess exist, and also why the self analysis / game report tool exists. i dont support it, but.. i cant stop you either, so do whatever floats your boat. in essence, you never really face your problem and counter your opponents annoying chess, you just jump over the problem. this will bite you in the butt someday i believe, and this is why it's just better to face your problems.

I do that elsewhere, which is why I take the blocking route here.
@rishabh11great yeah, that I can consider annoying too. These days my patience is being tested and not coming to me, so I have decided to block any play that irks me. For instance, I just blocked a guy who play sound, but aggressive. I can't deal with the Bc4 Nf3 quick attack on f7 mate threats over and over without feeling disgusted by it. So people who play for that I may block too.
idk man.. learn how to counter it? theres a lot of fish in the sea and it's likely that you'll never even meet that person again. what's likely is the fact that you will see another person play that. take some time (15 mins or so) out of your day and learn how to counter that attack.
I'm not sure if blocking players because they play a particular style is such a good idea. After all, to grow and develop as a chess player, we must learn to face all kinds of players. If I player has an annoying style, I rather review what they did, and find a way to fight back. But I have blocked plenty of players for adbamdoment. If I know that I'm not able to win a game, then I resign, but I have faced plenty of players who instead of resigning, they adbamdom the game. If they do that, I do block them.
Sure, but that rests on the premise that I want to get better into the game by playing here, which is not valid. But anyway, my point is that using the block button liberally is not a bad idea...
for social people it is because its harder to communicate and causes great anoyance

you cant possibly block all of them. no matter what, youre just going to meet people who use that same opening. and you should learn counters to those annoying openings anyway, so you can counter that opening at the other place too.

I've just had a mini match with a guy who wanted to go all Bird, after a few games I kindly asked him if we could play something different. He said OK and then played the Bird again. Sadly I had to block him for not keeping his word. That's the type of thing I'm annoyed by and that's where the blocks come from.
I can't be bothered to play against the Bird over and over. I kindly ask for a different opening, opponent says YES and then plays the Bird. You tell me if you wouldn't block such a player...
Why would you rematch him if you didn't want to face the bird's? It would be very simple to just decline the rematch...

For social people who do the blocking or for those who are on the receiving end of the block? For the former, it's unlikely that it will result in any problems communicating. As for the the latter, they have a way to avoid being blocked and become annoyed in turn (by me at least): play good sound non ultra-aggressive chess and keep your word. It's not like I ask for a lot...

thats def understandable, another tip is just not rematching him tho btw
Why would you rematch him if you didn't want to face the bird's? It would be very simple to just decline the rematch...
i gave him a shot. Actually, several shots... But that's what you get when you don't want to be a posterior... others get to be that posterior to you.
You can you use, but in a real tournament you can't, like FIDE or USCF
Batman is quite right. For example I never ever blocked anyone because it is very unfair.
My opponent thinks very long and his playing style is irritating me but it's not reason to block him and deprive him possibility to play with me.
Man, I ask you... never do it again. It is not a good thing.

Yeah. It's just not a good thing to do.

You shouldn't block by their playstyle but, if someome using bad words, you should block

Of course. Especially f-words and russian mat.
You should respect yourself.

It's a perfectly valid opinion. I just don't share it. If a player is irritating to me, I may or may not block them.
I'd rather block them. Preparing for 1.h3 is not worth my chess.com time. Neither is playing against h3 on any time control. Just block the player to prevent further annoying stuff from creeping into my chess experience.
You don't have to. It is a stupid opening that is so unsound and gives almost a point advantage to black. If you know the basic opening principles, beating it should not be a problem.

If you block every opening you do not like, soon you will be playing people who only play the same thing over and over again, and as you have mentioned that you play here for fun and not to improve, that is ironic.

Well, what I said was faaaaaaaar different then what I said, you are literally scared and running away from your weaknesses, if you can’t deal with that thing, work on it, what you said makes no sense. I said I sometimes I block people who “play all nonsense moves, get a lost position and then flag me”. Blocking sound players means that you lack sportsmanship Ngl, also I unblock most of them within a few days.
You're perfectly entitled to that opinion of myself. I just disagree. And I've rarely reversed a block. Once you're blocked, you're very likely to remain blocked. Ultimately it's my right and I'm going to exercise it and I encourage others to exercise it on their own.
