On blocking players and making the most of your chess.com experience

Wornaki, what do you think would happen if everyone on chess.com blocked people they didn't like playing against?

Nothing good.

Probably lots of aborted games and many closed accounts. Maybe that's my future here. A closed account.

When someone plays the opening, do you abort or do you play and block afterward?

I play and I block afterwards...

I've just blocked a guy who mated me by doing the usual Q+B battery against h7. I'm tired of all those who try that. It's as boring as those who go for Scholar's mate. All of that is so disgusting that it makes me wonder why i even bother playing on this site. Other sites have less annoying players...

It's part of the game.

People can't always play your way.

Just try to make the position the way you like it and if they ruin it, then you can at least learn something.

Sure, people can't always play my way. Interestingly, many people do play my way in other sites. Even here, the higher the rating, the less annoying the player, even in bullet. So, my conclusion is... this is a place full of annoying players

If the above is a right conclusion, I may seriously think about not playing here anymore and even closing my account.

Or just block everyone playing for that kind of "trick". It's annoying.

This was a 1 minute game...I thought you were going to stop playing these fast controls because the nonsense games were annoying you? This game though wasn't even cheapos, the guy just outplayed you.

I've fallen for that many-a-time because I was looking at the wrong side of the board.

I'm trying to play fast time controls just for the sake of playing. I don't mind being outplayed. I just dislike that kind of play. I get irritated when they go for that. I get irritated when people play the Englund gambit or the Budapest against me. I get irritated when they go for Scholar's mate. I simply do not want any of that in my online chess experience. And I've realized many people here go for that, which is not the case in other communities, both online and offline.

My conclusion looks more and more right (if that were possible), the more I go over it. It's becoming clearer by the minute. I may have to stick to daily. No blitz, no bullet, no rapid. Maybe I'll be lucky and I'll find it less annoying to play here. If I don't find that less annoying playing spot, I may have to close the account...

I don't care about falling for that trick. What I care is that people will try to go for it. I find that annoying and disrespectful. That it works and that's why they do it? I can see that being an argument. I think it still spells disrespect and I don't tolerate disrespect that well

idk i think u just got outplayed and ur skill isnt good enough to see the scholars mate, just sayin, and i think it is unfair to block people for winning against you

Sure, it's MY online chess experience, after all. I've got to protect it. And that's why I block.

I've blocked a lot of people whom I've defeated. The blocking isn't done because I lose. The blocking is done because I don't want to see that kind of play and I couldn't care less if I win or lose. I just dislike that play.

Yeah, ig it's your choice, but you gotta learn to defend. People aren't going to stop playing trappy openings.

but thats so dumb, you want people to play a specific way but they wont and it is THEIR choice to make the moves they want to, not your choice, dont mind me saying but i think thats rly selfish and close minded
