what's the best opening for beginners??

English Opening, Sicilian Najdorf and Englund Gambit took me from 800 to 1400 if that’s your cup of tea?

Mastering opening principles will serve just as well so I hear.

I see 1.e4, e5 and 1.d4, d5 are very popular and strong.

Sicilian has a lot of theory. Too much to remember and the move order is extremely important.

E.g. you need to remember to play c5 before Nc6. Not the other way round.

Depends, in the Sicilian and English; you’re playing off ideas so it’s less theory dense and memorization than e4 and d4 games.

Personally it came down to taste as I like imbalance positions. I also enjoy coming out of the opening equalized and in a playable position with a straight forward middle game plan.

Hi,

There’s no best opening for beginners to me but there’s certainly better ones to learn first, and those are ones that follow opening principles closely (Ruy Lopez, Italian game, Queens Gambit, Queens Gambit Declined (black), and such. Basically openings that you place a pawn or more in the center quickly and develop in the center.
