Hey all, probably dumb question but I am confused why this black pawn on g4 takes white pawn on h4. Move #42

It is called en passant.

After seeing this question asked dozens of times in a few weeks, I began to wonder.

So I went to google.com, I wrote in "weird chess capture", and there you have it. Amazing.

It is certainly much-much faster than opening a new topic and typing in the whole story and posting a game.

yeah, it's called chatting on a beginners chess forum dude. I bet you get quite a few common questions on here which you probably read all of, tutting at how your precious time is being wasted

Yes, it's called en passant, which is a special pawn move.    This move is legal is chess, of course.  Now you know what en passant is!   Yay!
