ben stuck on 900 for the past month or so but. Wondering how i can do a better job analyzing my games and learning from them. It’s been a matter of up and down games and i just feel hopeless. I love the game and wanna get better. Thoughts?

1. Development
2. Develop your pieces
3. Developing your pieces toward central-controlling squares from which they cannot be easily driven back by pawn advances is really important, hence the first three points are about piece development.
4. Castle early and often
5. Knights and bishops before rooks
6. Focus on critical squares in the centre and aim to control or occupy them.
7. Work to ensure all your pieces are guarded.
8. Form a plan.
9. Try to understand the reason for your opponent’s moves.
10.
a) consider a move,
b) find your opponent’s BEST reply to that move,
c) determine your follow-up
d) repeat “a)” if your best follow-up renders a disadvantage.

I looked at two of your games.
Opening:
Only advance pawns that assist piece development.
And don’t waste time with unnecessary pawn moves while any of your pieces are sitting on their original squares.
Watch a video or two on specific openings; I recommend the King’s Indian Attack for white, and possibly the French Defense for black. Many similar themes come up no matter what your opponent does.

play. keep playing. the guys at the top don't recommend studying openings or any of that. do your tactics every day, I've found that helps me to recognize patterns in games. and just keep playing. I've been floating between 1100-1250 for like a year. but my all time high gets a little higher every week! sometimes when I get frustrated I just take a week off. your love of the game will bring you back, and it is hard to make good moves when you're just thinking about your rating.
