First of all, welcome. I hope you will have a nice time playing chess.
To answer your question, that is completely up to you. Chess coaches cost money, and you should decide if you want to spend some money on it or not.
Perhaps it would be a good advice to play some games for a few weeks or so and see if you are still enthusiastic about chess to spend money on it.
You can at least try to learn opening principles and try to avoid making big mistakes in the meantime. I would advise you to play longer games, at the very least 15|10 (15 minutes + 10 seconds increment on every move), or longer if you can make the time.
All that being said, you can hire a coach right away as well if that is your wish. I am sure many coaches have experience with novice level players.
Hello. Very nice website and I am a beginner in my senior years.
This past week my chess set arrived from the House of Staunton and it's a very nice set. Paid a couple hundred dollars more rather than purchasing another one in a few years. This one is a keeper. Quality.
I am a beginner learning the moves again after a 40 year "layoff" and purchased a couple of books thanks for replies from another forum here on chess.com but my question is when should I seek local private instruction. Would this benefit me now or later? There are a few instructors who offer zoom and private one on one in my locale. Should I wait till I am more acquainted with the game and playing?
Thank you
