Having played in teenage years, just socially, I have returned to chess at age 78. Reasonably how much should I expect to improve?

You joined in 2012.  We're you 78 then or now?

Unless your playing playing bullet on a life size board that would be hard to answer😄 I'm 57 and of course pay attention to the ratings, but more importantly enjoying the heck out of it. If I hit some insurmountable wall, at least I enjoyed the ride. I would think one could play the puzzles until your last breath.

I'm in the old guy club too. 50 years old and just started about 4 months ago. My ultimate goal would be to get to about 1500. I'm in the mid 900s now. It's definitely hard teaching my old brain new tricks.

Play and study if you enjoy it, lessons, videos, puzzles, whatever floats your boat.

Depends. Are you just learning the moves, or do you still know some decent tactics?

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I'm a chess coach based in California.   If you are very serious about improving, I would suggest getting a chess coach to give you one-on-one lessons and playing in regular tournaments.  Regardless, if I was in your shoes, then I would learn basic tactics/strategies and opening traps.  Reading tactic puzzle books helps a lot!
