I didn't even study it. I just check what my opponent plays against e4 and if they play french, I play something else other than e4 to avoid it.

I mean I don't see the point here, just study the bd3 line, it's practical.

What Open Sicilian do you recommend to Sicilian starters? Dragon, Najdorf, Accelerated Dragon. Classical, Paulsen, Kan or whatever?

I know you didn't ask me, but I would go for accel dragon or hyperaccel dragon. Najdorf structure is immensely complex and requires some understanding of KID structures and Maroczy bind.

AC Dragon and HAC dragon have less theory, and you only need to know the maroczy bind structure.

Mr. Rice, I have a question for you if you don't mind?  I notice that your Daily rating is much, much, lower than all of your "speed" games?  I've noticed it with other players too, not just you. I'm playing a Daily game right now with an opponent who has a rapid and blitz rating of over 2000 and a Daily rating of just 801.  Most people have a higher Daily rating than any other because Daily gives you options that other time controls don't. What gives?  Can you explain it please?  Thanks.

I know you didn't ask me, but in my perspective I just don't care about daily. Also, less people play it (you rarely see people above 2200 daily)

@anyone

In Scandi, which do you think is most playable?

A. 3. Qd6

B. 3. Qa5

C. 3. Qd8

D. 2. Nf6

The first three are all ok

the last one isn’t as good

Most players like myself have high rapid and blitz ratings and low daily rating because to be frank, we don’t care about it as much. We don’t think because we don’t see the necessity of having a high daily rating. It’s disappointing but it’s the truth.

I find daily and general blitz and rapid to be very different games.

Daily chess players can exceed the accuracy of blitz and rapid players but only given large amounts of time to think per move - I find Daily chess requires more of a thorough and investigative personality, whereas rapid, blitz, and bullet require more of a bloodthirsty and competitive nature.

I think most chess players who dedicate the time it takes to get very good at the game do so because they are fiercely competitive - whether they have the patience to also play good daily chess is incidental person by person.

Sadly correspondence chess has taken a hammering since the invention of computers and borders on irrelevancy in the eyes of the wider chess world.

And, personally, I've never had the patience for it. I did get up to 1700 for a time, and feel like I could definitely go higher if I wanted to put in the time, but I'm not sure what I would get out of the time invested.
