xD Reminds me of a really old joke I heard years ago. "If any normal man is arrogant enough to think he is perfect, then he is wrong because he just lied. When? Just now, when they claimed to be perfect. If they still don't believe that you showed they are imperfect, then just ask their wife: she'll give you a list of his imperfections."

Im pretty sure my ex-wife started that...

lol

THats not ruy lopez related but ok. lol

I was thinking the same thing, but you know how tangents go. Trying to bring the forum thread back to the original post: does anyone else have any suggestions in how to play the Ruy Lopez Opening as White and not face the annoying ...Bg4 pin? h3 is the key idea I think, but perhaps someone can share an interesting alternative, or something?

If your opponent plays ...Bg4 before they're developed and/or castled, that might be a chance to gum him up and possibly attack him by h3, g4, etc. However, you always need to be careful when pushing your Kingside pawns in this fashion.

(Because they expose your own King. But if the opponent is not developed enough to attack, then he cannot take advantage of this weakness.)

Lets follow your logic....

How many pieces does black have on the kingside, and pointing at the kingside?

How many pieces does white have on the kingside, and pointing at the kingside?

Now what does white do?

You spent 2 pawn moves chasing the bishop, and weakening your king, and on top of all that.  You gave black the lead in development.

This is more what I had in mind. If you will reread my posts above, you will see that I clearly stated that you had to examine the position carefully to see if h3 and g4 would work.

This is the main line, avoiding ...Bg4.
