Ruy Lopez query

first of all, man do I love this app! I’m sure it’s been asked elsewhere but I was just curious as to the downside of the ruy lopez when black attacks our light squared bishop and we back up, isn’t that giving black a big lead on kingside pawn advancement/development?

Not really, no.  If you check out a few lines in the Explorer, you'll see that white is usually doing better.  Here's one...
