Should I quit chess?

I started 2-3 months ago, my ratings are extremely low and I don't really seem to be improving at all. I almost never enjoy playing chess, most of the time I just feel frustrated after a loss or draw, or tired after a win. I feel extremely burnt out.

Is it normal to feel this way? Most of my friends who have chess as a hobby always seem to enjoy it. I think maybe chess just isn't for me. Is it a good idea to quit? take a long break? or keep playing?

If it helps, I feel that way sometimes too and you have the same daily rating as me... and I've been at it for 3 years. This is just really hard.

Hey,

If you don’t enjoy and I would say take a break. Try not to be so competitive, it’s just a game. Play against the computer more that way you can quit and start again and you’ll start to learn the opening patterns.

U r a player with a competitive disposition, u should make Korchnoi your role model and hire a good coach, u have that streak that blaze of fire that spark which is prerequisite for success, my blessings with you

My advice would be to completely stop playing bullet and blitz games, they will not help you improve your game at all, I know it can feel like "the more matches I play the better I will be" but it's simply not true with fast matches, you'll just be stressed, you won't have time to really think through your moves or why you're doing them.

Stick to daily games, and really think about the moves, take your time, you can not rush as a beginner of chess.

Do the problem solving things and puzzles, do the beginner lessons available here on the site and instead of trying to win, try to just find some "cool" moves while playing, some nice combinations where you outsmart your opponent.

But I'll say it again, blitz and bullet etc will only give you those frustrating feelings, and when you win it's mainly going to be because the other player blundered a little more than you.

Hope you stick with it.

if it only brings frustration, you can drop it and come back months later when you feel like playing again, if ever

I can teach you EXACTLY how to think during the game (opening, middlegame and endgame). Your chess understanding will never be the same and you will improve a lot. I charge $10/h, but if you can’t afford too many lessons, don’t worry. I can teach you a lot in an hour. Here to help if you are interested.

If you want to study by yourself, read ‘Logical Chess’. It is really instructive book. You have it on youtube as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eTB7oHeRgM&list=PLUrgfsyInqNa1S4i8DsGJwzx1Uhn2AqlT
