Tips for chess?

A friend recently told me that you should always play towards the centre of the board for chess and this strategy usually works well for me. They also taught me a bit about pawn structures such as "the Flying V". Does anyone have any similiar tips or strategies like this or know where I can find a list to them?

Place your pawns and pieces to control the central squares (d4, d5, e4, e5). This not only provides a solid foundation but also facilitates the movement and coordination of your pieces.

Learn about different pawn structures and their implications on the position. Examples include pawn chains, isolated pawns, and pawn islands. Understanding pawn structures helps guide your plans in the middle game.

Coordinate your pieces to work together harmoniously. Pieces that support each other contribute to a strong position.
