Today’s Daily Puzzle

This is one of about 1000 moves I don’t understand when I see the computer make them. In the daily puzzle, black sacrifices queen and then checks with a knight right in the path of a rook. The computer says whites next move is to just move the king over one space. WHY wouldn’t white just take the knight with the rook? There’s no danger. It’s a “free” piece.

If you are talking about the puzzle I think you're talking about, take a closer looker at the Bishops supporting the attack. One Bishop covers an escape square while the other actually double checks the King. Therefore, taking the Knight is not an option, since the King is still in check. The only move, is to move the King to g1. Hope this helps. happy.png
