Technically, for the purposes of chess, tactics usually mean a sequence of moves, based on calculated ideas, which enable a player to gain an upper advantage over his opponent once executed fully. In some cases, tactics enable a losing player to salvage his position.
Endgame tactics zoom more on the ability of a player to gain the advantage needed to win the game smoothly.
Middlegame tactics zoom more on "sudden blows" out of nowhere in the middle of the game, and they can further be sub-divided into classifications such as "fork", "pin", "removal of defenders" and so on.
