What are your main obstacles as a beginner?

Hey everyone, I'm currently trying to find out how one could make the progress of chess players a lot easier and faster wink.png

This is why I have two very simple questions:

  1. As a chess player, who wants to get better, What are the 2 biggest issues, you're dealing with?
  2. Regarding getting better results in chess, what would you wish for more than anything else?

Thanks so much in advance - looking forward to reading your answers!

1. Anxiety of playing a game and losing rating (especially after hitting a milestone)

2. Stress while playing, generally results in burnouts

3. I would wish to have the chance to play my favorite openings more often

  • I only really have one issue: it's the knowledge that I'm gonna lose. A lot. In the rare case I win, it's either the opponent ran down the timer or they resign. Either way, it never feels satisfying.
  • I wish I could play against players like me.

I to am learning and have a very basic opening which allows me to compete (against same/lower level players) but I then struggle middle and end game so I suppose for me I need to work on 1. Learning to identify opposition openings and learning a few more myself 2. Middle and end game tactics

There are many. I will say lack of patience to learn more

The main obstacles as a beginner would be learning the fundamentals in a deeper manner.

When I was a beginner I had 3 main obstacles in my way. My friends, my family, and school.  So I didn't play much, as there were far more important things than chess.

As for the second question what I would wish for more than anything else, from a beginners standpoint, was one more game with my dad.

The main obstacle for beginners to overcome ?

That’s easy.

To put out of mind chess revolves about a players rating. That “improving” is the be all ... end all.
They practice and play thinking a rating makes all the difference, that a rating translates into status - having never stopped and smelled the roses.

Thank you for your responses. It seems that lack of support and anxiety are common issues!

1. Playing against e4

I know it's a textbook opening, but considering that it can range from the Italian Game to the Ruy Lopez to the Scotch, there's just too much theory that your opponent has (likely) prepared for, that I usually haven't.

2. Finding tactics, specifically remove the defender and intermezzos

Every time. I'll find maybe one tactic every now and then in a game, but remove the defenders and intermezzos are rare for me to convert for some reason.

3. Game anxiety
