as a newer player (below 500), I understand the basics of chess, ie: how pieces move, control center, develop pieces.... but what happens now? what should I start focusing on, what concepts should I start learning about and practicing to start improving?

Drill your basic endgames so that you can do them with a few seconds on the clock:
- 2 rooks vs king
- 1 queen vs king
- 1 rook vs king

If you have these three go for the hard but important one:
- pawn vs king

Now learn how to recognize some basic tactics like fork, pin, checkmate, and also how to not hang your pieces in one move, and how to recognize your opponent's hanging pieces. It will help you much as long as you're at the beginner level. I watched your game against Seetalam and in that game you were hanging your g5 bishop many moves in a row. If you don't hang your pieces and survive until endgame, then you can learn some endgame stuff. If you do hang your pieces, then learning endgames is useless for you because you don't even reach endgames, or reach them with being down material, which is already a clearly losing position. That's all what I wanted to say

Also based on your 5th move Qe1 from the same game comes the advise that you should take open lines with your rooks, not queens. And to make it much easier to learn chess stuff, I recommend you to consider watching YT channel Chess Vibes, which is really helpful for such beginners like you

Learn the first few moves of an opening as white and black. Do puzzles to build your tactical recognition. Review your games to learn from your mistakes.
