I've recently blocked one player who forced me to mate him R+K vs K, and in the end I didn't (couldn't care). He got his well fought draw and I got to block him.

Lol. That’s classic. Love that.

Blocking is a resource offered by the platform, so I thought to myself... why not use it?

If you drew K+R vs king and you had the rook, the correct action isn't to block your opponent.

The correct action is to quit chess forever... you suck. Big time.

(although if you're under the age of 10, or under the rating of 1000, then probably don't quit, keep trying.)

Interesting take. I can agree with your assessment if me sucking at chess. Can you agree with me on your hostility being entirely unwarranted and not related to the topic of the thread?

I second this. If you are rated 1000 and cant win a R+K vs a K then you should rethink your training, and not get pissed that your opponent didnt resign a lost position that you couldnt exploit.

@llama just sets out to always annoy the OP and make everyone else laugh

But it’s hard not to accidentally hang your rook when you have 3 seconds left

wornaki

The pattern may be well known, but it can be a long 10+ moves line with variations, not forced moves. You may hang your rook if you premove in blitz or bullet. In any case, I'm pretty sure very few beginners would play R+K vs K in classical/rapid OTB with some increment. Most intermediate players wouldn't even bother getting into that endgame.

Bro 10 moves is not that long, especially if you can blitz the moves out in two seconds or even less. Also, something like mate in 10 means the opponent can prolong the game for at most ten moves; 99% of them won't go out of their way to make you have to take the longest route to mate. I think you have the impression that something like mate in 10 moves means that it is impossible for checkmate to occur until ten moves from the point you are at.

wornaki

You may think 10 moves isn't that long... Maybe not, but remember that not everybody will care to play that. I have done it before and will do it in the future, but only when I care to. For the most part, R+K vs K is just ridiculous to play OTB...

practiceO

What's wrong with beginners playing that checkmate out? At most, they get to practice the technique needed to finish their opponent off. And if they don't know the checkmate, they'll be sure to learn from their mistakes and learn it for the next time this comes up instead of complaining about their opponent not resigning.

Well you know what buddy, if that's what you want to do, do it. It's your job to finish the game off and you are acting so pretentious saying that you can't be bothered to it. Seriously, though. You're a beginner and yet you are acting like a pro. You will lose a lot of games that way and giving your opponent the draw like that will only encourage them to keep on playing rook and king endgames. Good job, you are achieving the opposite of what you want. I also looked at many of your own games and you blundered a queen a couple moves into the game, but refused to resign until much later. Are you a hypocrite or what?

wornaki

Again with the hypocrite stuff.... *sigh* I'm a beginner. I play other beginners. I don't always resign a piece down, but it's very few and far between that I won't resign when there is a checkmate against me on the board, regardless of how many moves it may take. If beginners want to play that way and adopt the habit of being non resigners, they can certainly do so and I can certainly block all of the ones that I consider are just trolling. :)

wornaki

it's a lost endgame and if you don't have to premove and have at least a reasonable amount of time to double check, you will mate your opponent (or get mated) in under 15 moves.

You just destroyed yourself with your own logic. Why is ok for you to not resign in a lost middlegame, but you deem it right for your opponent to resign in a lost endgame? What about not developing bad habits, like you said??? You weren't a piece down, you were a queen down. You realize that the losing side in a k+r vs k endgame is only "down a piece". What a hypocrite. You can't even defend yourself because when you do, you make yourself seem even more delusional.

I might add that to my work email signature.  That should get some raised eye brows.
