Yeah, Komodo8 disappeared again for me.
where are the rated bots?
I've found some bots have disappeared too, like some saying they have not been online for 7 days.
Please bring them back chess.com !!
'If it's not broke, don't fix it'
But it is broke - so fix it please
sadly. some are not playable anymore
Are the Beth bots playable and do you know how to get to them?
I wish I could play Beth for rated games. I would be a 2700, but then again, the top gms would be in the 4000s
Bots gain and lose rating the same way people do, so Beth's ratings would soon drop. Still, I'd like to be able to play her as she favors the 1960s era openings I enjoy the most.
I am looking for a bot that is ranked and has around 200 rating, but I can't find one in that list? Does anyone know if there is one?
this one players like 200 @Martin-Bot
Yeah, I could play Sven/Junior and other BOTS until yesterday but today they're all unavailable in Live Chess. The only exceptions so far are the "komodo" bots. Those are still in Live Chess and accept rated games. But given the direction chessdotcom is going, I guess they will very likely be removed from Live Chess at any time. This is a significant regression.
all bots down now! so sad
Komodo's are fine my end.
Other bots are still there, but when you challenge them it says they are 'offline'
I'm confused - are these different than the ones you get to by clicking on Play, and then "Computer" and all the AIs are listed down the right side of the screen for you to choose from?

You can still play them, but the game won't affect your rating, and no record of them is stored under your profile (you can still export). Backward step but they're probably doing it to save on storage. Maybe it will return as a premium feature.
Yes, we're talking about rated play. Unrated play doesn't seem to have the ability to add a clock.
I suspect we're looking at bugs since if they were doing it on purpose we wouldn't see random removals and returns of the various Komodo levels. Unfortunately Komodo10 is the one I need to be working on right now for timed play.
I think it is deliberate. Bugs don't show up in such a systematic way. Earlier you could play rated games against all the human-named bots too. Now you can't play any rated game with any of them, EVEN IF you go directly to their profile page (or your game archive if you've previously played a rated game against them) and click "challenge". The message is always
"...-BOT is not in Live Chess right now, but they've been notified of your challenge"
of course they never respond back. The only bots still accepting rated live chess games are the komodoNN ones, and as noted, they seem to be on the path of removal of this functionality too. As others have said, chess.com simply does not want us to play rated computer games any more, and ostensibly the reasoning is to prevent artificial rating manipulation by gaming the bots. But unfortunately it affects many users of the site (like me), who mainly WANT to play rated bot games and who don't cheat/game our ratings, but still find ourselves on the short end of the stick.
@Santosh_83:
I agree that it's deliberate, but I think it's only partly to keep players from gaming the system. If they wanted to, it would be easy enough, I'd think, to put some rating restrictions on who you can challenge. I think it's more about saving storage space. Playing the unrated bots isn't quite the same of course, but if you play with no help it's still a good challenge.
I don't see how the system could be gamed much. The bots' ratings float just like peoples' do. You might preferentially pick bots you are good against, but then, you might do that with humans too.

I agree. I only played rated games against BOTs. Now that I can't do it anymore, I stopped playing at chess.com. I hope this decision will be reviewed and they will allow us to play again in the future.
