I just had a great game and when I finally wanted to celebrate my win... It was a draw! angry.png

Could someone explain to me why? What is this obscure rule? frustrated.png

Thanks in advance! wink.png

This looks like stalemate. Black is not in check, but there is no legal move for black to take. Therefore black cannot move but is not in check. That’s stalemate and it’s a draw. It’s frustrating mate and this used to happen to me a lot too.

Thanks!

Ok, it's good to know that. Another step towards a complete comprehension of the game.

In the Queen's Gambit stalemate was not mentioned, therefore most new players don't know what that is... even though it is a common word in English (and many other languages I guess) grin.png

It's actually not so obscure. Once you start studying KP vs K endgames, you will note the importance.

Yeah, stalemate. There are posts with varying levels of rage, like "I WAS WINNING WHYYYY" or "THIS IS A DUMB RULE." I'm glad to see that you didn't rage.
